Milestones

Milestones are groups of issues that correspond to a project, feature, or time period.

You can create a milestone to track progress on groups of issues or pull requests in a repository.

When you create a milestone, you can associate it with issues and pull requests.

Additionally, you can edit the milestone from the milestone page and create new issues that are, by default, associated with the milestone.

Creating and editing milestones

  1. On GitHub, navigate to the main page of the repository.

  2. Under your repository name, click Issues or Pull requests.

  3. Next to the search field, click Milestones.

  4. Click New Milestone to create a new milestone, or click Edit to edit an existing one.

  5. Type a title and description for your milestone.

  6. To get a notification when you're approaching a project deadline, set a due date for the milestone.

  7. When you're finished, click Create milestone.

Deleting milestones

  1. On GitHub, navigate to the main page of the repository.

  2. Under your repository name, click Issues or Pull requests.

  3. Next to the search field, click Milestones.

  4. Click Delete.

Prioritizing issues and pull requests in milestones

You can prioritize open issues and pull requests in a milestone by clicking to the left of an issue or pull request's checkbox, dragging it to a new location, and dropping it.

Note: If there are more than 500 open issues in a milestone, you won't be able to prioritize issue.
